Man you guys gotta read better. comments around here. People scoff at the price of the lens but you may not need a prime in the 28 to 70 range because of this. It is always amusing to see what new gems we learn every day! I wish Canon would make an f2.0 available for the 5D mark IV. This includes four aspheric lenses that correct for aberrations, distortions and astigmatism, plus two UD elements and one Super UD element to reduce chromatic aberration and achieve high image quality across the board. I’m not! A look at the corner performance of the Voightlander supports the points being made here. When the camera drops, the lenses will be there. The lens will sell well... enough super rich hobbyists around the world are waiting. It’s also a revolutionary lens in that it offers the widest aperture of any zoom lens in its focal range. I owned the Sony system. If I were into the R system, I would strongly consider buying this lens - the only shortcoming (for me) is that it doesn't start at 24 mm. If you look at the MTF curves of this lens at Canon's website, you'll see that they are very similar to the 24-70 f/2.8L II at the wide and tele end - while admitting twice as much light. The 40 STM pancake is great too, in some ways. So no, a single lens is not pudding. It’s a Canon shooter I am in awe of what the new 50mm f/1.8 from Nikon can do. Nothing but education and experience is going to improve your photography. 70mm @f/2 is likely shallower than 50 @ f/1.2 for those that lust after that. And presumably they codeveloped the EF-M 32 with the RF 50 to give those who cannot/do not want to spend vast amounts of money or lug around large and heavy systems a valuable option. So maybe the devil got not everything of the soul of this engineer. Ps: if f mount can have better lenses so does sony fe mount. But when it comes to using equivalent optics, their lenses are just as big as FF. There is no evidence to suggest E mount can't "accomodate" f2 zoom lenses.Mitakon managed to produce an FE 50mm f0.95 prime lens.Den, I hope Sony don't bother, if I want faster than f2.8, I'll just get the 24mm f1.4 GM and/or the 85mm f1.8Den. I hoped for Nikon/Canon to get more innovative on this. Sigma's ART one is very good wide open, equal to TAM at 4, but is not as good up further. So it would make sense to make different things instead of repeating what they already have in EF. So clearly the size of E mount is big enough for them.Den, Damian,The Tamron FE 28-75mm f2.8 has many positive reviews, so suggesting DPReview were wrong is a bit pathetic. A comfortable size with great ergonomics is an advantage. Following confirmation last week that it was working on a professional mirrorless Z-series camera, Nikon has officially announced the development of the Z9. I do believe in color science, but not climate change, it's a conspiracy. Stop feeding him. Even if it's too expensive or too heavy for some, you can always rent it out for wedding weekend or so, no need to pay premium if you don't feel like using it a lot! I know you are trying to suggest there is some sort of bias here against Canon and for Sony, but that is simply not true. In our latest buying guide we've selected some cameras that might be a bit older but still offer a lot of bang for the buck. There is no doubt that this 28-70 f2 is a stellar lens, and arguably the leading normal zoom lens in existence right now. Arun,"I'm fine with being called "silly" or even "stupid" if I make claims based on science that somehow offend others":Really?? But the design and cost would be very very difficult, and thus at the very least expensive. CA are pretty well controlled, but I'm surprised that they show even at f/5.6. They are not as good though, which is where the one stop difference at base ISO comes in. I owned the A7II and hated it. You could wish it was - but it wouldn't :-) Limitation of E-Mount? All we are saying is that their designers will find it easier to make fast wides for Z mount. Kodacolor200 - usual demagogue from complete ignorant! I'm not sure Canon deserve the accreditation 'stale' despite the gap between their innovations and what they actually bring to market. What tiny body? Photography Blog posted a set of sample photos shot with the Canon RF 28-70mm f/2L lens, a true masterpiece of lens for the EOS R system.
